E3: Live Blogging Sony Press Conference

4:54: Ok it's starting now. 54 minute late! Kaz Hirai, President and CEO of SCEA is talking about the importance of the PS2 and the PSP to the video game market.

5:01: A video is playing that showcases a bunch of PSP titles that are set to release this year. I see LocoRoco!

5:03: Kaz is talking about the Greatest Hits program for the PlayStation and the PS2. He just announced a Greatest Hits program for the PSP. Moving over that quickly: now talking about the UMD format.

5:06: Sony plans to add RSS video, VoIP features, and camera support to the PSP later this year. Now a video featuring some people talking about there experiences with Sony products is rolling.

5:11: PlayStation 3 is taking it to the next level. They will support Blue-Ray video and all the formats on the PlayStation 2.

5:14: Blue-Ray is the future says Kaz. Blue-Ray will send a message to the community that the only limitation is their imagination. He goes on to say that HD Gaming is the wave of the future.

5:20: Gran Turismo HD was announced. Is this going to start a whole new era of games named "Something HD"? Hopefully not. The game is very impressive visually. Ridiculously high resolution.

5:29: Amazing footage of a Gran Turismo HD track near the Grand Canyon. Crowds of people stand in the track before rushing to the sides to get our of the way. "Only the beginning."

5:31: They will beta test Gran Turismo 4 with online capabilities. The series will "not expand, but explode". They hope to deliver the next GT soon after the release of the PS3.

5:33: Dr. Richard Marx, creator of EyeToy, is demonstrating a technology that allows you to physically interact with a game. He places a card on a table and the screen shows a monster spawning out of it. He places down another card and another monster spawns. They can now battle based on how you interact with them using your hands. The game will be playable at the Sony E3 booth.

5:35: Kaz is back. He is talking about the power of online capabilities. Uses MySpace as an example of the success of a virtual community. He Lists many features that are currently available with Xbox Live, but mentions that their services will be available free to gamers.

5:39: Kaz is now demonstrating how PSP owners will be able to stream PlayStation games right to their handheld. He's playing Ridge Racer on his PSP!

5:42: They are demostrating how Singstar will be able to get songs and videos online.

5:58: I really should finish packing. I'm sure we'll get everything up here eventually. Maybe next year, we will get through a real live blog.
