[image:418 align=left hspace=10 vspace=10 size=medium]Rumors have been circulating the web for the past week or so, regarding the launch of another DS handheld. Today, Nintendo's President Satoru Iwata announced that Nintendo has slated the Nintendo DS Lite for a March 2006 release in Japan. According to an announcement that Nintendo sent to Joystiq, the DS Lite will be smaller and will feature brighter displays.
"Nintendo DS Lite will be less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter," the announcement said. "Nintendo will announce more information about the availability of Nintendo DS Lite in North America and other territories in the future."
This isn't the first time that Nintendo has released a smaller version of a popular product. Last year, they announced the Game Boy Micro at E3 2005 in Los Angeles.
