Metroid: Zero Mission Review

When God created the Earth some years ago all of time led up to 1981 when Metroid came out and shocked the world. 23 years later Metroid: Zero Mission came out and it did the same thing. Metroid: Zero Mission tells the story of Samus Aran's very first mission on planet Zebes as she explores a labyrinth of tunnels, caverns and caves crawling with fierce enemies bent on her destruction. If she doesn’t power-up her suit she will fail, if she doesn’t destroy Mother-Brain she will fail… if she doesn’t do anything besides kill she will fail, tough line of work but some has to do it.

Metroid: Zero Mission feels and looks a lot like Fusion. It basically has the exact same graphics and feel, which was kind of disappointing since Fusion came out last November but the graphics are still better the most GBA games out now. The gameplay is also similar to Fusion; Samus has her short beam then her long beam then her ice and then her wave. Then she gets her morph ball and rockets and screw attack and so on and so forth. Even though it’s the exact same moves from Fusion, they still rock so you don’t care that much and anyway, what’s more fun then killing little slugs with the most devastating attack in the game, nothing, that’s right! Samus is still exploring caves and mines and blowing up cracks in the wall to find her way around but with style. The designers at Nintendo really go all out to provide a huge interactive world with secrets and mystery to confuse you and really make you want to keep playing. All of sudden you will be stuck for like 45 minutes then you will realize that the way you need to go is like in the room next to you but that is the only room you haven’t gone into for the past 45 minutes and when you do finally go into that room you get so far in the game that you start getting really excited, then, tragically, your stuck again for 45 more minutes. It’s great, I love it.

The sound in this game is definitely my favorite music by far in any game I have ever played for the GBA. The music has this heroic touch to it that gives you this feeling of power, that you can do anything. Simply put its superhero theme music for Samus. The music in Zero Mission changes based on where you are in the game. If you are fighting a boss or going some where for the first time the music will change to make a creepy vibe. It even changes when you find a new power up.

The replay value of this game can be very long to a moderate length of continuation, based on how many rockets, super rockets, energy tanks and power bombs. If you do not have all of them you can go back and search every room of every level to find them. Also in this game when you beat it on normal you unlock Metroid, the original game to play. Furthermore you can replay it on hard mode. All these things are available to one to do as the please.

Overall this is by far the best GBA game I have played since Fusion and Ruby. I love it. 10 for gameplay, 8 for graphics, 10 for sounds and 8 for replay. Samus you can come and chill with me any time.

Oh, by the way I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone who hasn’t played it yet, but Samus looks hot in her tight blue spandex outfit.
